Detroiters in Foreclosed Homes Can Still Get Water Service

Residents who are still living in their homes after foreclosure can still get water service.

The Detroit Water and Sewerage Department is working to combat fake letters that allow residents in foreclosed homes to get water service.

Detroiters who remain in foreclosed homes by permission of the bank can still get water service with a notification of approval from the Wayne County Treasurer.

Water Department Director Gary Brown told the City Council Tuesday that several versions of the notice have been circulating.

“We have 60 customer service representatives and you train them on one specific letter and then they are starting to six or seven variations of that letter; it became a problem,” Brown says.

Brown says the department is working to get authentic letters sent directly to DWSD from the county to avoid the use of counterfeits.
