It’s Tax Season Again
D.C. holiday pushes filing deadline to Apr. 18
The deadline to file 2016 federal income tax returns is April 18, 2017, three days later than usual. That’s because the 15th falls on a Saturday, and the following Monday is a holiday in Washington, D.C. Taxpayers have already started filing their returns early. Luis Garcia works for the Internal Revenue Service in Detroit. He tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller people should find out where they can file for free before hiring a tax preparer. Garcia also cautions filers to make sure anyone who prepares their taxes signs the proper forms, otherwise they could be cheated out of their refunds.
