Moms to Lawmakers: Gun Bills are Dangerous
Gun activists concerned about weaker conceal carry requirements
Mothers concerned about gun violence asked lawmakers this week not to weaken state rules that govern carrying concealed weapons.
Members of the Michigan chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America visited several offices of state senators and representatives.
Chapter President Emily Durbin said proposed revisions to gun laws in Michigan would allow gun owners to carry firearms in public without training.
“It also would allow people who were previously prohibited under our current law who had been convicted of stalking, child abuse, some drug offenses, aggravated assault could now successfully carry concealed weapons in public,” Durbin said. “We think that’s a bad idea. We think it’s not in the service of public safety for Michiganders.”
Durbin said some legislators are also expressing concerns about the changes. She said others told the group they are open to discussing the issue.
