UM Receives $58M Grant to Improve Healthcare
The University of Michigan has received a 58 million dollar grant from the National Institutes of Health.
The University of Michigan has received a 58 million dollar grant to help push research and improvements in healthcare.
The school says the money will help fund research projects and encourage community participation.
George Mashour is the director of the university’s Institute for Clinical and Health Research. He says Michigan residents are key to solving healthcare issues.
“We really need community involvement and community engagement in all phases of research, even from the early conceptual phases,” Mashour says. “But definitely in terms of connecting with the community around clinical trials, for example, helping them to understand the research that’s going on.”
Mashour says without community help research projects won’t go very far.
Participants can help with studies through surveys, testing of new drugs, or examination of diet and exercise.
