SMART Introduces New Express Routes
Rides on FAST routes are free until January 15.
Commuters can ride the SMART bus system’s newest express routes for free until January 15th.
The service is called “FAST” which stands for “frequent, affordable, safe transit.” The new route will travel along Woodward, Gratiot and Michigan Avenues.
Deputy General Manager Robert Cramer says the new service will go farther than the current REFLEX bus route.
“The reflex stopped when it got to Somerset on Woodward. Now it goes father out to Pontiac or Troy City hall. On Gratiot, it used to stop on Mt Clemens and now goes up to 23-Mile. And obviously, on Michigan there was no reflex style limited stop service,” Cramer says.
Cramer says each route will originate in Downtown Detroit.
He says the fare will be two dollars, the same as on all SMART buses.
