Michigan Playwright Returns Home With New Detroit Public Theatre Play
The show is centered around a woman who bakes a cake “in real-time,” says Noah Haidle.
Haidle has also made a name for himself writing for film and television, most recently writing for Jim Carrey’s new Showtime series, Kidding.
One of Haidle’s plays, Birthday Candles, is set to debut at the Detroit Public Theatre.
WDET’s Ryan Patrick Hooper speaks with Haidle and Detroit Public Theatre’s co-founder Courtney Burkett about the play.
Haidle says the show is centered around a woman who grows older and bakes a cake “in real-time” on stage.
According to Burkett, the DPT commissioned Haidle to write the play “before he had written a word of it.”
“We believe in his ability,” Burkett says of Haidle. “He’s an incredible artist.”
