“There Doesn’t Seem To Be Anybody In The Middle”–Unpacking The Kavanaugh Hearings
Was partisanship in a judicial hearing inevitable given today’s political climate?

A lot happened last week in America, and the weekend seemed to bring a little bit of breathing room to unpack what we all witnessed with the testimony from Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, who accuses Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her in the early ’80s.
On Mondays on Detroit Today we like to reflect on some of what’s going on in the political world with someone who sees things a bit differently than host Stephen Henderson.
Matt Resch is founder of Resch Strategies, a political public relations consulting firm, and former press secretary for Dick Posthumous.
“There doesn’t seem to be anybody in the middle anymore,” Resch says of the political climate punctuated by the hearings. “You’re either with [Kavanaugh] 100% or you’re with [Ford] 100% and there’s really no place in between.”
Resch says he doesn’t blame Kavanaugh for entering into the partisan fray at the hearing, because of the intense partisanship in Washington right now.
“It’s been partisan since day one,” he says. “I understand completely his anger, if he’s being truthful… his partisan passion is understandable.”
