Study: Helping Immigrants Buy Homes One of Best Ways to Help Detroit Neighborhoods

Global Detroit Executive Director Steve Tobocman joins Detroit Today with Stephen Henderson.

There are a lot of challenges keeping good Detroit neighborhoods intact, and even bigger challenges trying to shore up neighborhoods that are hard-hit by abandonment and disinvestment.

But we’re also a community that’s rich with immigrant families who’ve come here to build a better life for themselves.

Is the cross-section between those dynamics an opportunity?

A new report from Global Detroit says yes.

Global Detroit is a non-profit that aims to make metro Detroit more attractive and welcoming to immigrants and foreign trade. Its recent study says we should double down on efforts to make newcomers to our country into homeowners.

Steve Tobocman is the group’s executive director. He joins Detroit Today with Stephen Henderson to talk about those findings and what he thinks we should do to accomplish those goals.
