Wayne County Ethics Board Holds Hearing on Whether Sabree Violated Rules

The board is looking into whether Sabree’s family members were treated more favorably than other residents in the tax foreclosure process.

The Wayne County Ethics Board held a hearing Wednesday to decide whether or not County Treasurer Eric Sabree violated ethics rules.

He has allowed members of his family to purchase properties through the tax auction he oversees.

The board is looking into whether Sabree’s family members were treated more favorably than other residents in the tax foreclosure process.

Sabree does not dispute that his wife and son have participated in the auction while he worked in the Treasurer’s office, but he disagrees that this is a conflict of interest.

After three-and-a-half hours of discussion, the Ethics Board postponed the conclusion of the hearing and delayed making any decisions regarding Sabree’s actions until next month.
