Conservative Surgeon Ben Carson Launches Presidential Bid In Detroit
Conservative retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson launches what he calls a “unique” presidential campaign.
Conservative retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson is jumping into the race for the Republican presidential nomination.
Carson told supporters in his hometown of Detroit he will run a “unique” campaign.
He’s striking the chords that make him a favorite among tea party conservatives, citing the importance of balanced federal budgets, limiting taxes and regulations on big business and reducing social programs he says create a climate of dependency.
Carson – who’s never held elected office — says neither he nor voters should be part of what he calls the “political class.”
“Stop being loyal to a party or to a man and use your brain,” he told a crowd at Detroit’s Music Hall.
Carson is the first African American to join what is becoming a very crowded field for the GOP presidential nomination.
