Thousand Of Kids Looking For Help
Kids just want to be kids with parents and a family
There are 13,000 children in Michigan’s foster care system. Many of those children have been in the system for years. To recognize National Foster Care Month, “Detroit Today” host Stephen Henderson speaks with two leaders in that state’s foster care system. Joining Stephen is Jeanne Fowler of Big Family Michigan and Keith Stump of Lutheran Social Services of Michigan.
- The Number of Children: Fowler says while there are around 13,000 children in the current system, that number is actually down from a few years ago when the figures were closer to 20,000.
- From Foster Care to Adoption: Stump says one of the highest priorities is to reunite children with their biological families before putting the children up for adoption.
