Selfridge Raises Security Level
The Selfridge Air National Guard Base is raising security levels because of a “heightened threat environment.”
Officials at the Selfridge Air National Guard Base are raising security levels in response to a treat of possible terrorist activity.
Selfridge is joining U.S. military bases across North America – and the Pentagon — in slightly elevating security.
Officials say the extra precautions are not being triggered by any specific threat, but rather because of a series of recent events.
They are especially concerned about a shooting at a cartoon contest in Texas and an anonymous internet posting that said trained fighters were ready to attack in a number of U.S. states including Michigan.
The head of the FBI said this week that some individuals might attempt attacks after being influenced by ISIS or other terrorist groups over social media.
Last month officials at Selfridge said about 350 airmen and a dozen A-10 Thunderbolt II planes were dispatched to the Middle East to help in the fight against ISIS.
