Former Senate Armed Services Chair Says Keep US Boots Off Iraqi Ground
Former Armed Services Chair Carl Levin says Iraq forces, not U.S., must be the boots on the ground to battle ISIS.
In recent days the terrorist group calling itself the Islamic State – also known as ISIL or ISIS – has claimed responsibility for several suicide bombings and gained ground on the battlefields of Iraq.
Some U.S. officials question whether those fighting ISIS on the ground are up to the task, especially the Iraqi Army.
Iraq’s government counters that they need more weaponry and military personnel from the U.S.
But the former head of the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee says Iraq must fight its own battles.
Michigan’s former senior U.S. Senator Carl Levin tells WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter he believes the outcome for ISIS is preordained.
