Clerks Didn’t Have to Wait to Issue Marriage Licenses after SCOTUS Ruling
Oakland County Clerk says she officiated over a dozen same-sex marriages Friday.
County clerks in Michigan started issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples shortly after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled Friday that such unions are legal. Oakland County Clerk Lisa Brown tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller she has officiated 13 same-sex marriages since the ruling came down. Brown also says the state has provided her office with new license forms that reflect the change.
