Fiat Chrysler Recalls Vehicles Vulnerable to Cyberattacks
Fiat Chrysler is recalling some vehicles after a magazine hacked into a Jeep and took control of its engine and locks.
Fiat Chrysler is recalling more than a million vehicles that could be susceptible to cyberattacks.
The recall comes in the wake of a recent report by a magazine which had hackers remotely disable the engine, locks and other items of a 2014 Jeep Cherokee.
The recall covers some 2013-2015 model Jeep Cherokees and Grand Cherokees, Dodge Vipers, Ram pickup trucks, Dodge Durangos.., Chrysler 200 and 300 sedans and Dodge Chargers and Challengers.
Officials with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration say Fiat Chrysler knew since January that some vehicles could be hacked through an open communications port which the automaker says has now been closed.
But Fiat Chrysler did not immediately disclose the issue to the federal agency.
Some members of Congress are blasting the company for waiting so long to issue a recall and say they will propose creating legal standards for protecting connected cars.
