Wayne County Commission to Vote on Next Step in Financial Crisis
The Wayne County Commission has seven days to decide how to emerge from a fiscal emergency.
The Wayne County Commission is meeting this week to determine whether to approve a consent agreement with the state as requested by Executive Warren Evans. Governor Rick Snyder declared the county to be in a fiscal emergency last week.
Commissioner Diane Webb says she does not want to vote for the measure without knowing what exactly would be in the document.
“I think that all of the negotiation and representing that has to happen prior to any agreement has to happen, so you don’t have to put that formal name on it,” Webb says.
The consent agreement is one of four options the county has to help eliminate its $52 million structural deficit. The county has until next week to make a decision.
