GM Investing $877 Million in Flint Assembly Plant
GM is building a new body shop at its oldest assembly plant in North America.
General Motors’ Flint Assembly Plant is getting a new body shop. The automaker has announced it’s going to use $877 million to build a new facility at its oldest assembly plant in North America. GM spokesperson Tom Wickham says no new hires are tied to the investment, just new machinery.
“Stamping operations are very complex, a lot of robotics, a lot of automation. This is a clean sheet approach for us to have a brand new body shop that gives us a little more flexibility for future products.”

Wickham says the new body shop will also connect to a stamping plant in order to minimize transport and handling time of materials. He says he expects construction to begin next year.
