As FCA/UAW Deal Fails, Union Threatens Strike at a Ford Plant
Workers at F-150 plant in Kansas City could walk Sunday without a local contract.
Rejection of Fiat Chrysler’s tentative contract with the United Auto Workers appeared certain Wednesday. The Associated Press reports that plant-level union leaders have been summoned to Detroit for a meeting on Thursday to discuss their next move. Their options include going back to the bargaining table or a strike. The union is also threatening a strike at one of Ford‘s factories. UAW Vice President Jimmy Settles is asking for authorization to strike at the Kansas City Assembly Plant, which makes the Ford F-150 pickup. He says Ford has not bargained in good faith on a local contract covering more than 7,000 workers at the plant. Ford says it’s confident it can make a fair deal with the union. Kristin Dziczek, Assistant Research Director at the Center for Automotive Research in Ann Arbor tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller every auto plant has its own issues.
