Pontiac Silverdome to Be Demolished Next Spring
The 127-acre former home of the Detroit Lions will be torn down next year.
After years of abandonment, the Pontiac Silverdome will be torn down. The former Detroit Lions stadium will be demolished after a $30 million price tag failed to drum up interest. Realtor Robert Mihelich says recent events have made the stadium a tough sell.
“Since the roof collapsed, and the pipes froze and got into disarray from the weather conditions, we feel it is cost-prohibitive to bring it back to life so the best use would be to repurpose and reuse the land and what we’re working on now is a mixed-use project.”
Robert Mihelich, First Vice President of CBRE Real Estate Group
Mihelich says his real-estate company has drawn up a conceptual plan that includes housing a company headquarters. He says the demolition of the Pontiac Silverdome is slated for the spring.
