Massive ‘Fat Albert’ Jet Adds Heft to Blue Angels Air Show
The Blue Angels, complete with huge support jet “Fat Albert,” flew this weekend at the Thunder Over Michigan air show.
Some of the world’s best pilots took to the skies at Willow Run Airport this weekend for the annual Thunder Over Michigan air show.
Those best-of-the-best included the legendary Blue Angels stunt-flying fighter jet squadron and its tactical support aircraft, the huge propeller-and-jet powered C-130 Hercules plane known by the nickname “Fat Albert.”
Designed to drop troops and supplies in tight spaces, even Fat Albert put on a show with the Blue Angels.
And it featured a bit of history.
One of Fat Albert’s pilots, Capt. Katie Higgins, is the first female pilot to fly with the famed squadron.
She talked about it with WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter.
