Palooza of Auto Events Heading to Metro Detroit This Summer

Car races, car cruises, new car creations. It’s all coming to Detroit under the banner Autopalooza.

The Metro Detroit region is gearing up for a series of car-themed events this summer.

Tourism officials call it Autopalooza.

It covers everything from professional races to students competing in futuristic cars to see which can drive the longest distance using the least amount of energy.

The Detroit Grand Prix on Belle Isle is among the featured events.

Grand Prix Chairman Bud Denker says the energy competition, in particular, is a showcase for up-and-coming automotive talent.

He said, “These young future engineers actually camp out and live in Cobo for that entire weekend. What better petri dish can we have?”

Additional Autopalooza events include a NASCAR race at Michigan International Speedway and car cruises in Detroit, Eastpointe, Westland and numerous other locations.
