$10 Bill Gets Image of First Female Slave to Sue a White Man and Win

Sojourner Truth has widely recognized name but her legacy is not as well known

The U.S. treasury announced this week that Sojourner Truth, among others, will be featured on the back of the $10 bill. Her name may be familiar to most people but many don’t know how she made history. A Detroit filmmaker is working on a new project about the life of Sojourner Truth. Lateef Calloway and Truth’s decedents wrote the bio-pic and now have the backing of feminist and political activist Gloria Steinhem. Calloway spoke with WDET’s Amy Miller about the legacy of Sojourner Truth.
