Democrat Hillary Clinton says she is the best suited of the presidential candidates to deal with the issue of racism in the U.S.

Clinton spoke last night before a crowd of nearly 10,000 at the Detroit branch of the NAACP.

Clinton’s strength among black voters has helped fuel her primary victories.

But she’s also been criticized for supporting the crime bill signed during her husband’s presidency, which some claim has caused a disproportionate number of blacks to be imprisoned.

Clinton told the crowd at the Detroit NAACP’s Fight for Freedom Fund Dinner that her initiatives to create new jobs and affordable higher education would help blacks in particular.

“We are going to dismantle the school to prison pipeline and create a cradle to college pipeline in its place,” Clinton said.

The Democratic front-runner added that any economic progress made by the Obama Administration would be lost if Republican Donald Trump becomes president.

Clinton told the predominantly black crowd that President Obama helped save both the domestic auto industry and Detroit itself.

She calls that a stark contrast to Republican front-runner Trump, who she says refused to immediately disavow support from white supremacist David Duke.

Clinton said, “We cannot let Barack Obama’s legacy fall into Donald Trump’s hands.”

Clinton says as president she would build on Obama’s efforts by bringing new jobs, safer schools and more affordable higher education to black communities.
