Organization says Line 5 Oil Pipeline under Straits of Mackinac didn’t receive proper scrutiny
An oil pipeline that runs under the Straits of Mackinac is the subject of a lawsuit filed today. But the National Wildlife Federation isn’t suing Enbridge, the company that owns the pipeline, it’s suing the federal government instead. Mike Shriberg is the Great Lakes Regional Director for the National Wildlife Federation. He tells WDET’s Amy Miller that the Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Agency approved a permit to transport oil through the aging pipeline without proper scrutiny.
