Governors Veto Means Bigger Cities Will Pay for State Road Work

45 MI cities will pick up the tab for state road projects on trunk lines running through town

Governor Snyder’s veto of a road funding bill is raising the ire of officials in Michigan’s larger communities including Detroit and most of its suburbs. The legislation which passed both houses unanimously, would have forced M-DOT to pay for construction projects on state roads that run through cities. But Governor Snyder vetoed the legislation saying communities should share in the costs of construction on trunk lines that go through respective communities. John LaMacchia is the Michigan Municipal Leagues’s Associate Director of State Affairs. He spoke with WDET’s Amy Miller about the impact the veto may have
