Clinton Picks Granholm for Transition Team, Trump Plans Return to Michigan
Clinton taps Ex-Mich. Gov. Granholm to co-chair transition team, Trump campaigns Friday near state capitol of Lansing.
The presidential campaign continues to have something of a Michigan flavor.
Both the Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump campaigns are announcing moves involving former state officials.
The Clinton campaign is choosing members of its transition team, the group that will advise the former Secretary of State on who should be part of her cabinet should she win the presidency.
And former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm will co-chair that transition team.
Granholm advises a super political action committee working on behalf of Clinton.
And the former governor and state attorney general has been mentioned by Democratic insiders as a possible cabinet member herself.
In May Donald Trump named New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie to head the transition team of the Republican nominee, should he win the White House.
Earlier this month the Wall Street Journal reported that former Michigan Congressman Mike Rogers would also play a “senior role” in Trump’s transition team, though Rogers himself has not yet publicly confirmed the move.
The Republican presidential nominee himself is returning to Michigan this week for a rally near Lansing.
Trump is scheduled to hold an afternoon rally Friday at the Summit Sports and Ice Complex in Dimondale.
The visit comes a little more than a week after the GOP standard bearer outlined his economic agenda before the Detroit Economic Club.
Recent polls show Trump still trails Hillary Clinton in many key battleground states, including Michigan.
But the Trump campaign believes several paths to the White House remain open.
One requires winning every state Republican nominee Mitt Romney captured in 2012 plus Michigan, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Wisconsin, all areas where Trump’s tough talk on trade and keeping jobs in the U.S. has resonated with blue collar voters.
