Detroit By the Numbers: The 2017 Detroit Elections

How many challengers does Mayor Mike Duggan have?

The lone challenger to Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan in next year’s election now says she’s withdrawing from the race.

Devonna Harvey tells WDET in an email that she is in the process of dissolving her candidate committee.

“I will not be moving forward with running for mayor of Detroit,” she says.

Harvey filed her committee’s “Statement of Organization” in August, and in October she told the Detroit Free Press that running for mayor was “something I heard in prayer that I should do.”

She declined to further discuss her campaign with WDET.

Her withdrawal leaves Duggan with no challengers, according to filings with the Wayne County Campaign Finance System.

The deadline to submit a petition to run for Detroit Mayor is April 25. The primary is August 8, and the general election is November 7.
