Researchers to Hold Massive Archive Session to Copy Climate Data They Fear Trump Could Make Vanish

A Toronto group will copy climate data they say could be lost to the public if it differs from Donald Trump’s view.

President-elect Donald Trump has made some contradictory statements regarding the science of climate change, calling it at different times a Chinese hoax, a possibility and then something that “nobody really knows.”

That’s causing a bit of panic in the scientific community.

Some researchers have begun frantically copying government data on climate change, fearing that it might vanish after the Trump Administration takes office if it differs from the President-elect’s view.

A group in Toronto is holding an all-day data archiving session Saturday.

The effort is led by the University of Toronto’s Michelle Murphy.

She tells WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter preserving the government data involves an extensive process.
