Torch with a Twist Keeps 1930s Aesthetics Alive
“The vaudevillian cabaret features a lot of variety.”
While burlesque dancing, fire breathing, and 1930’s aesthetics are generally a thing of the past, Detroit still boasts a strong community of performers that blend dark carnival charm with vaudeville circus acts. One of the cornerstones of this community is Torch with a Twist.
On Saturday, September 23rd, Torch with a Twist will celebrate its 11th anniversary at the Tangent Gallery in the New Center neighborhood.
Grace Detroit, one of the creators of Torch with a Twist, previews the upcoming celebration.
“The vaudevillian cabaret features a lot of variety,” says Detroit. “A lot of fire and a lot of dangerous objects all accompanied by a traditional standard jazz band.”
