Longtime Michigan musician Fred Thomas just released his new album Aftering on Polyvinyl Records. It’s part of a trilogy of albums he’s released over the years.
Thomas says he reached a point in his late 30s when he started thinking about giving up on music.
“At a certain point, somewhere in there, something shifted in my world,” says Thomas. “A lot of things that I thought were going to be the same way for the rest of my life absolutely were not. For the first time in a long time I reflected those shifts in my music and started making music that was way more personal.”
Thomas will be performing in Detroit on September 19th at the Outer Limits Lounge and then at Third Man Records on September 20th.
Thomas stopped by WDET to play some of his new music and talk to CultureShift’s Ryan Patrick Hooper about his creative process.
