True Blue Reinvigorates 90’s Grunge, Blending a Mix of Influences on ‘Solitary Queen’

True Blue is the moniker of Detroit singer and songwriter Alexandria Berry, who’s a huge fan of mid-90’s guitar-centric bands like Hole.
That’s hardly Berry’s only inspiration though: the vocal stylings of mid-70s groups like the Carpenters have also influenced her sound.
Berry broke out onto the local music scene last year with her debut EP “Solitary Queen.”
WDET music reporter Jeff Milo spoke with Berry about her musical journey, teaching herself how to play guitar, and embracing the meditative solitude of songwriting, as well as her big show this Sunday, April 21 at Detroit’s Marble Bar, opening up for D.C.-based post-punk band Priests.
