How To Fix Michigan’s Flooding Infrastructure Issues

Miller joins Stephen Henderson to talk about infrastructure, flooding in Southeast Michigan and climate change.

Southeast Michigan recently saw some terrible flooding after heavy rains, which closed down roadways and caused disruption all over the region. In the past, Stephen Henderson has talked with experts at length about how this isn’t just a climate or weather issue it’s an infrastructure issue.

From the 2019 Mackinac Policy Conference, Henderson sits down with someone who is always thinking about these issues and how to fix them: Macomb County Public Works Commissioner Candice Miller.

Miller says she hopes to be a role model on infrastructure issues related to discharge and sewage that ends up in Michigan waterways.

She also discuss pay-to-play politics, acknowledging climate change as it relates to protecting our Great Lakes through legislation and regulation, divisiveness in Washington politics and the Mueller report.

On the Mueller report, she says “in my mind, it’s done,” as she looks ahead with hopes that there will be federal legislation to improve infrastructure in Michigan and throughout the country.
