Former WDET News Director Chuck Wilbur Talks Shaping News in 1980s Detroit

Wilbur joins Detroit Today with Stephen Henderson to recount his time at WDET from 1987 to 1991.

To mark the 70th anniversary of WDET, Detroit Today host Stephen Henderson is talking with current and former employees about how the station has changed over the years, as well as how the mission has stayed the same through it all.

Chuck Wilbur is an affiliated consultant with Public Policy Associates, Inc. He’s also a former WDET news director. Wilbur joins Henderson to discuss his experience at WDET and his former news show “Dialogue Detroit.”

“Long before I even thought about working in radio, WDET and NPR were shaping my sensibilities about the news,” Wilbur says. “The station and NPR kind of define the news reality for you and you say maybe there’s a role for me in that.”
