The Coleman A Young Foundation has partnered with We Run 313 to raise money for scholarships through the Detroit Free Press Marathon, with help from Filthy Americans Apparel.
The Coleman A Young Foundation is the former mayor’s financial legacy and a way to help many African American students afford college. We Run 313 is a city-based running group that has developed quite a social media following. Khary Turner, executive director of the Coleman A Young Foundation and Lance Woods, co-founder of We Run 313, join Detroit Today’s Stephen Henderson to discuss the scholarship opportunity and the connection between physical health and education.
“A healthy body makes for a healthier mind,” says Turner. “We like to think that this partnership to promote health and academic achievement is really Mayor Young’s wildest dream–taking care of yourself, taking care of your mind,” Turner adds.
