Seinfeld’s Jason Alexander Comes to Detroit for DSO Performance. Wait, What?
You may know Jason Alexander as bumbling, easily-angered George Costanza, but the performer’s roots are in song and dance. WDET’s Jake Neher talks to Alexander to preview his upcoming performance.
You probably know him as George Costanza from Seinfeld.
But, you might not know that Jason Alexander built his career not on the small-screen but on Broadway. He’s a Tony Award winning song and dance man, and he’ll be here in Detroit for a weekend of performances with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra at Orchestra Hall this Saturday and Sunday.
Detroit Today producer Jake Neher caught up with Alexander ahead of his trip here to Michigan.
Alexander tells Neher that “when Seinfeld ended, I originally thought I would go back to the theater. I spent all of the 1980s in the theater in New York. That was my fantasy of what a career as an actor would be.”
But Alexander had to limit his theater performance as he raised a family, which required his time and attention as a father.
The show is autobiographical on how Alexander fell in love with Broadway theater.
