Detroit Evening Report, April 6, 2022: Coalition launches pilot project to support Detroit parks and public spaces
Welcome to the Detroit Evening Report, a daily round-up of news that city residents need to know.
The Detroit Parks Coalition is launching an 18-month organizational pilot to support healthy, equitable and vibrant parks and public spaces in Detroit. More than 1 million has been secured. The pilot will include staffing and new citywide park programming and $500,000 in capital improvements for Detroit parks. DPC is supported by grants from The Kresge Foundation, the Hudson-Webber Foundation, the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, and the Knight Foundation. Other supporters include the State of Michigan and the Detroit Pistons. About $90,000 from the Knight Foundation will go toward hosting an arts festival across seven Detroit parks in August and September of this year. DPC will host an in-person launch event on 2-4 p.m. Monday at Eliza Howell Park.
