WDIV reports this is part of a new $650,000 agreement between MDOT and city officials. The Services and Infrastructure Group is contracted to use specialized equipment in the clean-up.
“These slopes in a lot of areas, especially on I-94 as an old freeway, the slopes are very steep, and they’re dangerous,” Services and Infrastructure Group Executive Brad Dick told WDIV. “So, we have to have specialized people with specialized equipment.”
The efforts include removing trash debris and beautifying the area near the Wyoming and I-96 area by planting 1,000 trees and 2,000 shrubs.
“We live here, and it didn’t matter to me whose jurisdiction it was in, the state, the county, or the city,” Councilwoman Angela Whitfield Calloway said. “As a city and city resident, we wanted the area cleaned up.”
The changes will roll out in the upcoming months.
