Kyle DeGuilio, an economic development policy manager at Amazon, says informational meetings for residents interested in applying will take place in the coming weeks.
“Early March, those positions will start to trickle through to Amazon’s website — we do it in waves — then those waves become available on the website,” DeGuilio told WDET. “We’ll make sure that obviously Detroiters have visibility into those.
Amazon hopes the fulfillment center will be at full capacity by this summer after missing their target date to open in 2022. Detroit officials didn’t appear worried when Amazon announced the center was not ready to open yet last October.
“Amazon could have chosen anywhere else,” Nicole Sherard-Freeman, group executive of Jobs, Economy & Detroit at Work, said at the time. “This is great for the city and we’re not concerned about the delay, given the fact that the project was announced at the beginning of the pandemic. Amazon has made a tremendous investment and commitment to the city of Detroit and we look forward to the facility’s opening.”
Detroit City Council approved the facility plans in October 2020 after Amazon promised new jobs and millions in economic impact.
