YumVillage brings Afro-Caribbean fusion food to El Club
Founder and owner Godwin Ihentuge says he wants to connect with his roots while helping other Black Detroiters connect to their ancestry through food.
YumVillage is a local Afro-Caribbean fusion-style restaurant that offers a wide range of delicious dishes, from jerk chicken to the traditional African side, FuFu. They recently became the official food vendor for all concerts at El Club in Southwest Detroit.
Founder and owner Godwin Ihentuge started out in the tech world and transitioned to cooking and owning restaurants. Born to a Nigerian father and a Black American mother, his food is a representation of love, family and the diaspora. Ihentuge says he wants to connect with his roots while helping other Black Detroiters connect to their ancestry through food. He joined CultureShift to discuss how growing up in Detroit has impacted his business practices and what’s next for YumVillage.
