Visions: Classic 70’s cuts
Kaleigh Wilder April 27, 2026Listen to “Visions” with host Kaleigh Wilder every Monday from 8-10 p.m. ET on Detroit Public Radio 101.9 WDET.
Joe Henderson at the Pompei Jazz Festival in 1987.
This week on Visions, my playlist was inspired by the WDET Soul & Bowl event I DJed. I found myself gravitating toward 1970’s soul for my selections, so I wanted to carry that theme through to this episode of classic jazz cuts from the 1970’s.
This episode features Herbie Hancock, Alice Coltrane, Miles Davis, Harold McKinney, The Tony Williams Lifetime, Abbey Lincoln, Ahmad Jamal, Richard “Groove” Holmes, Gene Harris, Grant Green, Elvin Jones, Jaco Pastorius, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra, Bobbi Humphrey, and Joe Henderson.
There’s so much incredible music from this time period, and I can’t possibly play it all in a two hour episode, but I hope you enjoy the selections.
Check out the playlist below and listen to the episode on-demand for two weeks after it airs using the media player above.
