Backlash Over Beyonce’s “Formation” At The Super Bowl
Detroit News columnist Nolan Finley and Laura Weber Davis talk Beyonce and Trump
Detroit Today host Stephen Henderson is joined by Detroit Today producer Laura Weber-Davis and Detroit News editorial page editor Nolan Finley to discuss the week in news. Topics include controversy swirling around Beyonce’s Super Bowl performance of “Formation” and Donald Trump’s chances in Michigan’s GOP primary. Finley also previews his new book, Little Red Hen, a collection of his columns.
Bey: Weber-Davis believes that the reason behind the backlash to Beyonce’s performance is an undercurrent of racism towards African-American women. “It’s a group of people who I really feel society wants to silence whenever possible,” Weber-Davis says.
Trump: Republican candidates, Weber-Davis says, feel that they need to pull more votes not from other candidates, but from Donald Trump. “There’s this sense that we just have to ‘wait’ Donald Trump out,” she says.
Fundraising: The main theme going on in this Presidential Election is a total rewrite of how you fund a campaign. “If you look at the results in NH, it was almost inverse from the amount of money spent,” Finley says.
