State’s New “Gag Order” Law Irks Clerks; Courts to Decide Its Fate
Law prevents city clerks from distributing certain ballot measure background information
A new law that prohibits city clerks from sending residents certain information related to ballot issues is expected to be addressed in court this week. Opponents of the law, which passed late last year, refer to it as the “Gag Order Law” and have asked the courts to repeal it. The Michigan Municipal League represents many cities and towns across the state. Chris Hackbarth is the Director of State Affairs for M-M-L. He tells WDET’s Amy Miller that the bill never should have been enacted in the first place.
