Palmer Park to host Winter Fest
Running from Feb. 11 through Feb. 13, the free outdoor festival will feature family-friendly activities including skating, sledding and more.
This year will mark the inaugural Winter Fest presented by Detroit Parks and Recreation in partnership with People of Palmer Park and Bedrock Detroit. Running from Feb. 11 through Feb. 13, the outdoor festival will feature activities for the entire family.
Ricardo Marble is the Assistant Director for the City of Detroit’s Parks and Recreation. He says the festival is an activity that residents committed to the area deserve.
“People of Palmer Park do a great job supporting us and making sure that the park is kept well and kept clean and things of that nature,” Marble says.
Marble says it’s a goal this year to make sure there are more engaging activities offered to Detroit residents.
“We’ve made it a priority that all of our parks begin to be more beautified and more engaging. And so this is just another opportunity for us to present something to the community that’s fun and exciting for all.” —Ricardo Marble, City of Detroit’s Parks and Recreation
Marble says the city has worked with the People for Palmer Park for years. “Anytime we have an opportunity to do any event at Palmer Park, we want to make sure that people from Palmer Park are engaged and involved in whatever we’re doing in the park,” Marble says.
Bedrock is another partner on the event, providing resources to bring the Detroit Youth Choir to the event. In addition to the performance by the Detroit Youth Choir, there will also be dance performances, 313 The Live Experience Band and Charivari DJ Collective. Activities include ice skating, snowshoeing, sledding, and an ice hockey demonstration by the Detroit Red Wings.
Marble says there will also be shuttles for free at the city’s four recreation centers: Adams Butzel Complex, Patton Recreation Center, Kemeny Recreation Center and Heilmann Recreation Center.
“We’re excited and looking forward to the community coming out and enjoying some of the festivities,” Marble says.
