Gas prices continue to rise in Michigan, hitting a new record high this week. These increases are occurring while oil companies are earning record profits amidst rising energy prices.
Some Democratic representatives are contemplating different strategies to ease the financial strain and win more votes in November.

Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Holly) represents Michigan’s Eighth Congressional District. She says the United States needs to do many things to combat rising gas prices, including ensure oil companies do not gouge Americans’ pocketbooks.
“There’s nothing wrong with making good money. There is something wrong if there’s price gouging,” says Slotkin. “There is a different standard between making good profits, making good money, succeeding as a business – which is what we want for every company – and price gouging, particularly because you’re in a moment of opportunity.”
