Detroit Today discusses Michigan’s 12th Congressional District race

Tlaib has out fundraised Winfrey by a long shot, according to a Detroit Free Press reporter covering the 12th Congressional District primary race.

It’s generally received less attention in the news, but Michigan’s 12th Congressional District race is noteworthy.

Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib has become something of a household name not just across Michigan, but across the United States. This is probably at least partially why she’s leading right now ahead of Detroit City Clerk Janice Winfrey. And while Clerk Winfrey is behind, she’s trying to build a strong coalition backing her, including a PAC of Black and Jewish business leaders.

“Rashida Tlaib is a household name. But not only is she a household name, she has a young and senior motivated base that are active and engaged. They participate, they’re loud and they vote,” — Mario Morrow, CEO of Mario Morrow and Associates.

“She just got all this attention and continues to get it,” says Spangler. “And, like I say, her name recognition is off the chart. I think that’s largely what you’re seeing. The people who like her have grown to love her.”

Mario Morrow is the CEO of political consultancy Mario Morrow and Associates. He says Tlaib has a powerful and engaging base supporting her that are “hard to beat.”

“Rashida Tlaib is a household name,” says Morrow. “But not only is she a household name, she has a young and senior motivated base that are active and engaged. They participate, they’re loud and they vote.”
