Art is Not a Crime: An Exhibition for Justice at One Mile
One Mile Detroit exhibits the work of William Lucka, charged with painting ‘Free the Water’ on Highland Park Water Tower
Artists William Lucka and Antonio Cosme are members of southwest Detroit’s Raiz Up Collective. The pair are facing jail time after being charged with painting “Free the Water” on a Highland Park water tower. This Saturday (August 13th), art space One Mile Detroit will exhibit Lucka’s work at a show titled Art Is Not A Crime: Free The Water.
Gallery co-founder and director Bryce Detroit tells WDET’s Travis Wright the show will mesh social justice with visual art while providing a space to discuss the criminalization of artists, art washing, and the intersection of activism and art.
ONE MILE is located at 7615 Oakland Ave, Detroit, MI 48211
