Detroit Today: WDET’s annual ‘Festivus’ airing of grievances for 2023
We had a lot of problems with 2023, and now you’re going to hear about it.
There has to be a better way! That’s why each year on Detroit Today, we gain inspiration from Frank Costanza and celebrate Festivus (for the rest of us). Celebrated on Dec. 23 and created by Seinfeld as an alternative to Christmas, the holiday features the annual “Airing of Grievances.”
On the show today, host Stephen Henderson and some friends of Detroit Today look back on the major frustrations, little victories and petty inconveniences of the past year.

Guests:
Nancy Kaffer is the Editorial Page Editor of the Detroit Free Press. She says initially the internet was a place where you could learn about anything and make friends but now she believes it was a mistake.
“Now it’s a place where we clump up into tribes and we spread insane lies about things that have happened and foreign governments use it to manipulate public image,” says Kaffer.
Kim Trent is Deputy Director for Prosperity for the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity. She says women’s clothing that is crafted without pockets is her biggest pet peeve.
“Pockets should be mandatory,” says Trent.
Ryan Patrick Hooper is Host of “Culture Shift” on WDET, 101.9 FM. He says public transit advocates around Detroit are bad at making the case for expanding public transit in Southeast Michigan.
“I have to call out this very specific world of public transit, which I call ‘public transit nerds,’” says Hooper.
Listen to Detroit Today with host Stephen Henderson weekdays from 9-10 a.m. ET on 101.9 WDET and streaming on-demand.
