New Ontario Birth Certificates Will Better Prevent Fraud
The polymer-based documents will include security features used by Canadian bills.
Ontario officials are introducing new, more durable birth certificates to the province. The documents will be waterproof, resistant to fading and more difficult to forge. Ministry of Government and Consumer Services spokesperson Cynthia Vukets says the documents now contain many of the security features found in Canadian paper money.
“There are two bar codes on the birth certificate itself—a two dimensional and a one dimensional bar code. They can be scanned by a machine. There is color-shifting windows, you know, raised printing, that kind of thing.
Vukets says the changes will not increase the price of birth certificates. She says the government will begin issuing the new documents next month.
