Royal Oak Mayor Talks Reelection and Successful School Bond

“I think Royal Oak voters are pretty clear that they’re ecstatic about the future of this city.”

Royal Oak is a city, like many in the region, that finds itself at a crossroads in terms of demographic shifts and issues surrounding economic development. 

Current Mayor Michael Fournier will return in that role next year after winning his re-election bid on Tuesday.

Fournier joins Detroit Today with Stephen Henderson to talk about his victory, his vision for Royal Oak in the coming years, and a successful $59.9 million school bond proposal in Royal Oak that was approved on Tuesday.

“I think the voters were pretty clear last night,” he says. “Overwhelmingly, they support the vision and direction our city is heading in. You can see this, obviously, by the school bond passing overwhelmingly.”
