Canada Pushes Back Date for Legalization of Marijuana

Legislators and provinces still working on framework

 

The federal government of Canada is pushing back its date for the legalization of marijuana. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced last year that cannabis would be legalized on July 1st of 2018. But, Health Canada officials say the framework is still being established. Officials have yet to announce what day the new law will take effect. Jon Liedtke is an advocate of legalization and Co-Owner of Higher Limits Lounge in Windsor, a venue where medical marijuana patients can legally bring in their own pot to smoke. Liedtke spoke with WDET’s Amy Miller and offers his perspective on the approach to legalization in Canada
